Fixed Denture Procedure
For patients who are missing most of their teeth, all of their teeth, or are in the process of losing their teeth, a fixed denture may be recommended. Fixed dentures are very effective in restoring your teeth to a full set that is natural looking and completely functional, allowing you to chew and smile in comfort. Whether you are missing most (or all) of your teeth due to tooth decay, dental disease, or trauma, a fixed denture may be the best solution.
Placing a fixed denture is a process that includes several steps based on the individual patient’s needs. After a thorough oral examination with the oral surgeon, a treatment plan will be developed for you. It may require several visits before the placement is complete, but your dentist and oral surgeon will work together to create a customized fixed denture. Typically, the first thing your oral surgeon will do is insert dental implants into your vacant tooth sockets and place the fixed denture. A set of temporary teeth will attach to the dental implants, allowing you to carry on normally while you wait for the permanent bridge. Once the final prosthesis is ready, it will be secured on top of your dental implants, which may take several visits for your jaw bone to adjust. When your bridge is secured to your dental implants, you can enjoy all of the benefits of your new set of teeth. Immediately following the final placement, you will need to stick to eating soft foods to ensure your fixed dentures are healed and secured. You will need to follow specific instructions from our oral surgeon to adequately care for and sustain your new teeth.
There is an innovative dental implant procedure that is regularly performed by oral surgeons called the All-on-4® Treatment Concept. The procedure takes four main dental implants that fit into your upper and lower jaw, providing a complete oral rehabilitation for patients who are missing almost all of their teeth due to periodontal disease, facial trauma, or other health conditions. The All-on-4® Treatment Concept can be completed in just two visits and offers the patients reduced recovery time. The dental implant procedure requires the patient to experience a short recovery after the dental implants are placed. This time is necessary to ensure the dental implants are established within the jaw bone. The All-on-4® Treatment Concept gives patients a natural-looking, functional, and restored smile.
